Often the cats will touch the water with their paw to create ripples before they drink. We have one cat loves to drink out of the faucet so we thought his would be purrfect. It is very quiet and all of the cats are curious, some drink from the bowl, as there is always ripples and others from the spout. It’s very attractive with the blue light in the sight window showing the water level. We have a 120v duplex receptacle above their feeding pad so we use the supplied 5v transformer plug to power the fountain. I’m considering adding a motion sensor receptacle so the fountain isn’t running 24/7. We are very happy with this purchase and highly recommend if you have a cat.

In the wild, cats’ whiskers let them know if a source is relatively safe or dangerous—crowded areas may hold standing water which may be contaminated by decaying animals, and open spaces with running water such as a creek are more safe. (This is also the reason why they say not to place your cat’s water dish near their food dish.) The ad was trying to sell a different product that was highly priced, and because ads are clearly biased to create a problem and then offer you the solution, I was a little bit skeptical but still concerned that if it WERE true, I owe it to my cat to at least try it out and see what happens.My cat is obsessed with this thing. Anecdotally, when we had a ceramic water bowl prior to this, I’d usually observe her drinking once a day/every two days from the time I got home from work til the time I went to bed. Now, I see her drinking 2-3 times per evening. Her fur has become super soft, and the litter box needs changing more frequently. She loves staring at the water in idle moments, and she was drinking from it within a hour of setting it up. Her enjoyment and increased hydration alone makes the purchase worth it, to say nothing of its other many positive qualities. Pleased with the detailed instructions for cleaning and filter changing along with the thoughtfulness to include a cleaning brush. The noise is minimal and pleasant. He loves taking nice, long drinks from his fountain. The other cats liked using it too, so I got another one to put on the second floor. No more water bowls on the floor now. They all like drinking from the fountains.Most of the components are metal, with a couple plastic pieces. The window on the front lets you keep an eye on the water level, which is very convenient. Everything seems very sturdy, and it's easy to take apart to clean.Aside from the fountain being great, the customer service for this company is incredible, and that is what made me feel compelled to leave a review (I hardly ever review products). She sometimes sits and stares at it listening to the very small noises it makes and swipes at the water with her paw or dips her head into the water as a refresher. The reason I came back to write this review well over a year later is to warn those who are not willing to stick to the upkeep this fountain requires. It is necessary that you clean the fountain AT LEAST every 2 weeks (and thats really pushing it, you should clean it weekly). You would be doing a disservice to your cat by not maintaining the fountains cleanliness and I would even say creating a safety risk allowing them to drink out of it past two weeks and would be better off having them drink from a regular water bowl. You must to commit to at least 15 minutes disassembling the fountain and cleaning all the grooves and corners and holes this fountain has to ensure you are cleaning every nook and cranny. You would be surprised how dirty and contaminated the water and parts become after just a week. I love this fountain for my cat so I am willing to do what it takes to keep it clean for her to use (and the parts are easy to take apart and put back together). Note: my dog does not go near it, but this is also consistent for him, as he is scared of his reflection in metal bowls and refuses to go near them. But perhaps your dog may enjoy this as well.

There are still a lot of parts to clean but I find that with all fountains.
